The Black Barn – a contemporary home combining simplicity and functionality
The Black Barn is a story of harmony, space, and conscious design. The house is shaped around a clear and logical division between the day and night zones, with its form subtly reflecting this layout. Two perpendicular volumes, connected by a glazed entrance hall, create a cohesive, clean composition filled with natural light.
The heart of the home is the day zone: an open space combining the kitchen, dining area, and living room. Its height, reaching up to the roof slope, enhances the feeling of openness and freedom. The interior breathes – light, natural materials, and simple forms come together to create an atmosphere that supports everyday living. This part of the house also includes all the technical functions: a two-car garage, boiler room, and laundry, discreetly integrated so they do not dominate the usable space.
The second volume houses the night zone – designed as a counterbalance to the open, dynamic day area. It offers privacy and supports the calm rituals of daily life. It includes two bedrooms, a bathroom, a walk-in closet, and a study that can serve as an additional room depending on the household’s needs.
A major strength of this design is its flexibility. Thanks to the option of modifying partition walls, the layout can be easily adapted to different family structures – from 2+1 and 2+2 to larger households.
The architecture of the Black Barn impresses with its minimalist form. A monochromatic façade and roof clad in black timber give the building elegance, refinement, and timeless character. This approach allows the house to blend harmoniously with both lush green surroundings and the more rugged Polish landscape.
A distinctive detail is the window framing in an oak tone. Slightly extended beyond the façade, it warms the composition and adds depth, creating a natural contrast to the dark cladding.
The Black Barn is an example of modern architecture that merges functionality, simplicity of form, and thoughtful design. It is a home created to provide comfort, flexibility, and closeness to nature – no matter how life evolves.
